2008-10-27

The 2008 convention, which was held at the Doubltree Hotel in Berkeley, was spectacular!  The convention began on Thursday, Ocotber 24th where auctioneers were treated to a tour of Harvey Clar's auction facility followed by a nice meet and greet where auctioneers were able to share their stories from the past year.  Friday, October 24th was a day about real estate auctions as Todd Good of Accelerated Marketing Group moderated a panel of experts including Martin Higgenbotham, CAI president and CEO of Higgenbotham Auctioneers International, Ltd., Inc., Sheldon Good founder of Sheldon Good & Co., Dennis Kruse, CAI president of Kruse International, and Jim Mullin, EVP and National Director of Staubach Auto Group.  The attendees were treated to an all-day panel discussion covering anything and everything about real estate auctions and their prevalence in today’s fast-changing market.

Saturday, October 25th included a roundtable discussion before lunch, which covered auto auctions, antique auctions, storage auctions, benefit auctions, asset auctions, and amusement auctions.  The panel included Martin Willis, Ron Fausset, Joe Ward, David Huisman, Rob Storment, and Amy Martin.  After lunch marketing awards and the general meeting, where a new board was elected, rounded off the convention.

The 2008-2009 officers are as follows: Mike Grigg, AARE President, Robert Storment, CAI South Vice President, Denise Rinaldi, CAI, CES North Vice President, Jacinta Jarrell, CES Secretary, and Ron Fausset Treasurer.  The Directors are as follows: Robert Daniel, Megan LoPresti, Melissa Storment, Ken Erpenbach, Todd Good, Norm Haigh, Rick Werner, David Huisman, CAI, Amy Martin, and past president Calvin Ogren, CAI, CES.

The board is excited to announce that there will be a spring seminar in 2009, which will be held on a cruise to Mexico!  Next year’s convention location will be in Lake Tahoe on October 22-24, 2009.

Overall, the convention was a huge success and the CSAA hopes to see you at the Spring Seminar Cruise and at next year’s convention in Lake Tahoe.
